Pigeon guillemot restoration research at the Alaska SeaLife Center

Description:

Pigeon guillemot (Cepphus columba) eggs and hatchlings were collected in 1998, 1999 and 2000 and raised in captivity at the Alaska SeaLife Center to determine the effects of diet composition and ingestion of weathered Prudhoe Bay crude oil on the bird's growth, development and survival. The results indicate that the growth of chicks was influenced more by the type of fish than by the amount of oil in their diet.
