At the same time, the University of Notre Dame, a long-time icon of excellence in Catholic education, has sold its soul for government funding and peer-group status among secular institutions of learning. The conferral of an honorary doctorate on El Baba, a zealous abortion advocate, has sundered the school from the Catholic Church and from many in the Notre Dame “family.” This is the scenario for “Grottogate,” the third novel by Missouri author Peter K.
