This story is inspired by the remarkable horseback ride through the woods at midnight, by a man named Jack Jouett to save the life of Thomas Jefferson during the Revolutionary War. The book begins with the story of 13 yr old Ainsley, after the tragic loss of her beloved grandmother she journeys to Charlottesville, VA where she hears the ongoing story of her not so famous ancestor Jack Jouett. Wanting to see Jack's ghost on the anniversary of his ride she camps out by the river where he crossed on his way to save Jefferson but she is unprepared for the consequences when she interrupts his ride and must travel back to 1781 Charlottesville to set things right.
