Crossing the North Sea

Description:

A collection of modernist poetry written in English. The book is divided into three sections called "Portraits", "Seasons", and "Crossings", the first section being the largest. The "portraits" depict people: real (contemporary or historical); imagined/literary; and, in one case, artificial. But the people include angels. Also some colours are portrayed. In addition, there is a portrait of a botanic species, the glacier crowfoot. The seasons vary; there are the seasons of the year, and those of one's life, including its close relationships. The third section, "Crossings", deals with crossings in geographic and/or spiritual senses.

People: Many individuals are described here,  especially in the "Portraits" section. Anna Pavlova and Cleopatra's children are a few examples.

Places: Many places,  not least the North Sea. Paris,  ancient Rome,  modern Glasgow,  Skye (Scotland),  the Arctic mountains,  Fife (Scotland),  Inverness (Scotland),  London,  Edinburgh,  and Lapland are some examples.

Times: Mostly our own period,  with a few exceptions such as the Viking era,  18th and 19th century Paris. The poems are set in many different seasons,  though.
