Description:

Qanat is a gently sloping tunnel which drains groundwater from aquifer and leads it to the surface by using gravity. Qanat is an environment friendly technology to obtain groundwater mostly for the purpose of agriculture without damaging groundwater resources. This book comes up with some new ideas on how to use the historical, cultural and technical potentials of qanat in tourism sector. The authors (Majid Labbaf Khaneiki & Ali A. Semsar Yazdi) are well known in qanat related studies who have published tens of books and articles on different aspects of qanat in English and Persian. The idea of writing this book sprouted in 2009 when the authors gave a presentation on qanat tourism at the Istanbul World Water Forum. This book examines the two elements of qanat and tourism as well as the relationship between them, and suggests adding new functions to the existing qanats in order to better justify their existence and guarantee their preservation. Tourism and its revenues can give rise to more motivation for maintaining qanats. This book is in Persian but it enjoys a 31 page detailed summary.
