During cycling and walking tour in the country Courntey Dainton often found his cuiosity arouned by man-made objects in daily use in earlier centuries, country bygones, so to speak. He tried to find out more about them, and was struck by the lack of information in any convenient form. He therefore collected his discoveries from many sources into this handy book, arranging them in alphabetical order, illustrating some of them with his own photographs, making, in fact, a countryside companion.
