Early printings featured primarily black-and-white photos with 16 pages of color photos; the subsequent revised and expanded editions included more color illustrations. Author Rick Goldschmidt is a life-long fan, collector and authoritarian who began work on the book in 1991. He went on to found and co-run rankinbass.com, the studio's official website, as well as author books solely about "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Mad Monster Party."
