Elizabeth Maxine Tendering was born 1 November 1919 in Portland, Oregon. Her parents were Charles Henry Tendering (b. 1890) and Eleanor Florence Heald. She was adopted by Otho Charles Wood (1873-1947) and Mattie Flaughter (1878-1934) in 1924. She married LeRoy E. Godfrey (1898-1982), son of Charles F. Godfrey (1856-1941) and Minnie M. Stanley (1874-1951) in 1937. They had two sons. She married William Taft Edwards (1908-1978), son of George Bentley Edwards (1881-1940) and Mable Beatrice Kessler (1891-1930), in 1947. They had one daughter.
