"In 1984 and 1985 at the request of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Bureau of Mines studied a 27,420-acre part of the 36,600-acre Southern Inyo Wilderness Study Area, CA-010-056, in order to evaluate the mineral resources. The study area is located in Inyo County, CA, near the town of Lone Pine, about 180 miles north of Los Angeles...the USBM (U.S. Bureau of Mines) and the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) jointly evaluated mineral resources and mineral potential...the USBM examines individual mines, prospects, claims, and mineralized zones and evaluates identified mineral and energy resources"--Leaf 4.
