Description:
The Tahtali Dam was constructed in Cuma Plain to provide potable water to İzmir. Before the dam project was completed, archaeological research and excavations have been conducted in the region between the years of 1994 and 2001 for salvaging the cultural property which would submerge because of the dam. Within the scope of the studies, as part of the protocol signed by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, excavations have been performed under the presidency of Izmir Archaeological Museum Director, Dr. Turhan Özkan, and under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Hayat Erkanal, faculty member at Ankara University Department of Archaeology. A tumulus and a pithos grave belonging to LBA uncovered during these studies between 1996 and 1997 are discussed in this publication.
