Brief and heavily illustrated introduction to Dzongsar Monastery located in Dege County in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, also known as the Dkar-mdzes district of Kham (Khams) on the eastern part of the Tibetan plateau. It was founded in 746, destroyed in 1958, and rebuilt in 1983. The monastery belongs to the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism and was the main seat of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro. It is also known for its role in the Rime (ris med) movement
