Description:

"The materials for this study [of the terracotta figures of Lesbos] is derived from the rescue excavations of the K' Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities throughout Lesbos from the '20s until today. The locations of the contemporary cities of Mytilene and Methymna, as well as the seashore villages of Skala of Eressos, of Ovriokastro and Achladeri reach until the limits of the ancient cities of the island. The study has been enriched by the finds of the excavations conducted by the British Archaeological School of Athens in ancient Antissa, from figures that had been handed over by citizens, from two collections which seriously indicate that the objects come from Lesbos and, finally, from the warehouse of the Archaeological Museum of Mytilene even though there is no record or any information on the place they have been found."--Summary, page 629.
