Description:
"This pamphlet is an appeal from the royal treasurers that the "droit annuel", the annual tax paid by holders of offices (popularly known as the "paulette"), be continued despite contrary suggestions of the opposition. The meeting of the Estates General had produced a call for the abolition of the tax. The ministers of the court, however, influenced the Queen to take a firm stand, warning her that earlier edicts continued the tax until 1618. The "droit annuel" was therefore restored on 13 May 1615, after the closing of the Estates General"--French Political Pamphlets Digital Collection, Brigham Young University.
