Description:

A proposed revision to U.S. Standard Atmosphere, 1962 developed by COESA Task Group I is presented for levels between 50 and 100 km. The proposed revision is based on rocket observations taken through 1971. It has a temperature-altitude profile that is approximately 10C colder the 1962 standard at 60 Km, nearly 20C warmer at 80 km, and 8C colder at 100 km. Densities associated with the proposed temperature-altitude profile are 8 to 9 percent lower than the 1962 standard at levels between 70 and 80 km and 10 to 20 percent greater at 90 and 100 km, respectively. Variations with latitude in the mean annual temperatures and densities are shown for levels between 50 and 100 km. (Author).
