"A new work of research adds significantly to the sum of ketûbbot of the Tunisian Jewish community of Livornian origin is not available. Recent research by Gilles Boulu and Alina Jedjar, members of the Cercle de Généaloge Juive de France,complement the previous publication of three matriomonial registries by Robert Attal and Joseph Avivi - from the Ben Zvi Institute - ifrom 1989 to 2000. Alain Nedjar and Gilles Boulu discovered two additional registers containing the marriage contracts of this Italian-Iberian Jewish community, commonly known as Grana. These two registers complete the series which initially included 10 registers spreading from 1754 to 1917. These are volumes 3 (1812-1844) and 6 (1872-1881) containing 434 and 264 ketûbbot respectively. This discovery thus gives access to an exceptional corpus of ketûbbot drafted between 1788 and 1881, without any interruption. Not only do the authors present the contents of these two books, but they also compile statistics on this community and reconstitute several examples of genealogies by crossing different sources, thus giving life to an invaluable body of data." -- back cover.
