Description:

*We Were Not Looking* asks a simple but overlooked question: What happens when the patriarchal narratives of the Hebrew Bible and the Qur’an are read through the physical world that shaped them? Drawing on sacred geography, hydrology, and ancient Near Eastern land‑law, Dante Muhammad reconstructs the Middle Bronze Age landscape beneath the ancestral traditions. When the wells, ridgelines, watersheds, migration routes, and territorial thresholds of the Levantine corridor are mapped together, the narratives begin to behave like a coherent land‑system rather than isolated stories. Introducing the “Hydrological Spine” hypothesis, this work explores how water, land, movement, and jurisdiction shaped covenantal memory across Abrahamic tradition. It offers researchers, instructors, and general readers a fresh framework for understanding the ancient landscape beneath the sacred narratives.
