Description:
Description of the life and work of Joseph T. Rothrock, considered the "Father of Pennsylvania Forestry" for his involvement with reclamation and preservation of the forests of Pennsylvania. Dr. Rothrock was a medical doctor by profession, but a botanist by inclination. He gave up both to pursue what he called the "forestry agitation" in Pennsylvania to preserve forest land, and became the first Pennsylvania Commissioner of Forestry. He started the Forestry School at Mont Alto that later became part of University of Pennsylvania. His devotion to his cause and his ability to accomplish his aims are inspiring.
