In recent years the behaviourist approach to the setting and realization of standards has re-emerged strongly in many countries and has been adopted by governments and education developers as a means of improving standards of teaching and training. This book reviews the strategies of a range of behaviourist approaches. Part I identifies the background from which they emerged and looks closely at the traditional tools of objectives, competences and learning outcomes (OCLs). Part II builds on this context by giving practical advice on the design and development of related instructional material. Examples throughout the book are drawn from such areas as management training, language development and industry lead bodies.
