An interesting record of the development of Justin, Texas from its beginnings with William S. Peters and a group of French Socialist Party expatriates calling themselves, "Icarians" established the town of New Icaria at the mouth of Oliver Creek in south central Denton County, Texas in 1848, through the period of Indian deprivations of the 1860, coming of the railroad on into the twentieth century. The work is a blending of oral tradition, newspaper accounts, court documents and the remembrances of Ed F Bates, noted documentalist of the history of Denton County, Texas. The Justin Story is rich in genealogical information of a substantial number of the pioneer families of early Justin. It is a scholarly work comprised of a substantial portion of Mrs Parr masters thesis. The impending United States Bicentennial Celebration aided encouraged the community's senior citizens to share their experiences and family lore.
