Description:

A minister, born in Person County to humble beginnings, from a talented family with a couple of centuries of history in North Carolina, from plantations to saw mills - owning the first car in Person County - to near devastation in the despression - rises from a farm in Berea to starting Churches from Brooklyn, Chicago and Albequerque New Mexico - creating congregations of several thousand people -to come home to North Carolina - Durham - to find he has heart disease. He has his first heart attack at age 42 - when pulling into a gas station across the street from the Greensboro Coliseum where he servesin several positions on the executive committee for the Southern Baptist Association - where the service station attendant has to jump into the car and drive him to Wesley Long Hospital so that he may live longer to continue to educate and spread the message of the purpose and meaning of life - to live with compassion and love for those around us. A much beloved man who served - and was not living to be served.
