A significant work dealing with the celebration of Mohammed's birthday in Java, containing detailed descriptions of the Garebeg ceremonies held in the craton (Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Karaton) of Yogyakarta, Java. The photographs, documenting theatrical performances and ceremonies at court, are taken by the Javanese Kassian Céphas (1845-1912) who was photographer to the court of the sultans.
