Description:
A teaching resource about the diversity of Australian people for primary students, Yrs 4-6. The book was created through an inspirational collaboration between the Powerhouse Museum and Yr 5 students at two Sydney primary schools. Students' words, pictures and stories reveal a rare and candid insight into the cultural diversity of family life in Australia. Published some two decades ago (1995), the terminology of major curriculum strands may have changed but the core message of the book is alive today as it was before: cultural differences enrich our lives. As different traditions meet, new culture grows and is shared by many. Kids, customs and culture explores many interesting concepts and questions, including Indigenous issues, multiculturalism, generational issues, traditions and beliefs. The selected activities encourage the young students to better understand and take pride in themselves and their cultural heritage.
